Spotlight: Charly’s T @ I12 Katong

One thing I love about the east is the variety of food available. Seriously, if I were to throw a stone, I would either hit an F&B outlet, or someone dining there! Almost everything is within reach, especially with the addition of a cinema at the newly opened I12 Katong mall, it’s surprising how people living in that area maintain their waistlines.

Having been to the first outlet at NOMU, I was naturally excited to check out Charly T’s I12 Katong outlet when Six&Seven received the invitation. Besides a bright, airy main dining area, which allows diners to look into the kitchen through a huge glass panel, this new outlet also boasts an 8-seater, Peranakan-themed private dining room – a godsend for bigger family outings.

Spotlight: PizItalia @ East Coast Beach

Pizitalia @ East Coast Beach

When we got an invitation to PizItalia @ East Coast Beach, I could not help but think the restaurant looked like a lost tourist in Chinatown – an Italian restaurant in a sea of local seafood favourites. Skeptical initially, I was pleasantly surprised with the Italian twist to our traditionally Singaporean food when it was served.

PizItalia is located at the hub of the seafood restaurants at East Coast Beach. It boasts a large selection of wine, but the table setting cheapens the restaurant – plastic chairs coupled with Daiso tablemats and cheap plastic chili and tomato sauce bottles (do they even have that in Italy?) definitely does not put one in the mood for wine.

Spotlight: Señor Taco – New Flagship Restaurant @ CHIJMES

When Señor Taco is no longer just Señor Taco; gone are the days where it’s a plain Mexican food stall as Señor Taco opened its new flagship restaurant ‘Señor Taco’—also Singapore’s first Mexican taqeuria and cantina—at CHIJMES.

Steering away from the heavy Mexican dishes revolving around seafood, expect to find light bites and platters for sharing as you knock back some drinks in the charming ambiance of the inner square of CHIJMES.

Accompanying the food is one of the widest and finest ranges of tequila you can find in Singapore. With four entire shelves, and counting, ranging from $9 for a shot of Don Julio Blanco to $200 for a sipping glass of Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario, it’s time to get chummy with the staff here if you love your tequilas.

Spotlight: Extra Virgin Pizza @ Asia Square

I must admit I was supposed to write about Six&Seven‘s visit to a certain ‘delicious’ cafe, but after having the sweet taste of barely legal newly opened Extra Virgin Pizza, at Asia Square, with the charming Nat HoRubbish Eat Rubbish Grow‘, I excitedly decided that this had to come first.

Who doesn’t love some FREE coffee? Oh yes, Extra Virgin Pizza is giving out free coffees in the mornings (until stated otherwise)!

“Each pizza is like a teardrop; every one is different,” the enthusiastic Chef Matthew White shared with us Continue reading

Spotlight: Marmalade Pantry @ The Stables

Marmalade Pantry @ The Stables

With the opening of Marmalade Pantry @ The Stables (formerly Mimolette), Six&Seven decided to head down there to see if it offered a good alternative to its sister branch at ION Orchard.

When planning on getting there via public transport, Google Maps suggested a 10 to 15 minute walk from the main road (obviously Google did not know what a 15 minute walk under the Singapore weather could do to you, else it would have suggested me to take a cab). I know for many of the dinner locations I have suggested to take a cab, but unless you intend on working off your entire dinner before starting on it, you should heed my advice.

Everything in Marmalade Pantry speaks of Sunday brunch – with its laid back concept, wooden flooring, and away from the bustling crowds. I basked in its relaxing ambience, which is on opposite ends with ION Orchard’s ambience. If you would like to know what countryside feels like, this is the best you are going to get in the Singapore context.
