About saundysan

Raised by a family of food lovers, Saunders developed his acute palate taste at a very young age. Armed with his camera, he is always on the hunt for new dining places. Saunders is adventurous in trying new food, and believes the waistline is a good reflection of prosperity. When asked, he describes a respectable restaurant as a place that not only serves good food, but also complemented with good ambience and service. “When it comes to food, it’s all in the packaging”

Review: Hummerstons @ Robertson Quay

Hummerstons @ Robertson Quay

I was never quite a fervent believer of Valentine’s Day; I always saw it as an over commercialized marketing concept created by retailers to boost sales. I never understood how does one put with exorbitant prices and crammed dinner tables all in the name of love. Nevertheless, I chose to indulge in the spirit of this “season of love” and arrange dinner with a friend. Also, I simply could not turn down my first Valentine’s dinner.

Embarrassment aside, I embarked my virginal experience with a close friend. Restaurant: Hummerstons @ Robertson Quay. The interior of the restaurant offers a good blend of casual and intimate dining. While the choice of decorations does bear a resemblance to P.S. Café, that is only because the chef/ owner was from there and simply “Crtl + V” the blueprints. Nevertheless, it was a perfect setting; given my dinner date and I were not romantically involved.

Review: Torte @ Waterloo Street & Adoption Drive

Torte @ Waterloo Street

The workweek can sometimes get extremely grueling for us. To tide ourselves through, many of us have a reflex response or a quick fix solution – some go for massages or engage in some online retail therapy. For me, it is a weekly patronage to Torte @ Waterloo Street.

Torte remains to be one of my favourite cafes to visit during during a school week. Located just a 5 minute walk from Singapore Management University, it is my little hidden oasis in the heart of a bustling city. Why anyone would subject themselves to the mad lunch rush and “tissue packet reservation” technique is beyond me; I am ensured of my peaceful, quiet and hassle-free lunches here.

Six&Seven @ Ellenborough at Swissotel Merchant Court – CNY Lunch!

A couple of weeks ago Six&Seven was invited down to Ellenborough @ Swissotel Merchant Court for a Chinese New Year Lo Hei lunch. Chinese New Year may have come and gone, but many of us are still stuck in the festive period brooding over the dwindling red packets every year.

The lunch started with a traditional Lo Hei, as all lunches during this period do. This would have been my 10th Lo Hei, and I do honestly wonder if there is a threshold to how much luck I can usher in through this vegetable tossing exercise.

Review: La Villa @ River Valley

La Villa @ River Valley

Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen in Singapore; after more than 300 plates of aglio olio, can you honestly rank them all in order? Probably not, but then again you are not a food writer so you would not have to. That is why La Villa @ River Valley stands out as an Italian restaurant.

Review: Fat Cow @ Camden Medical Centre

Fat Cow @ Camden Medical Centre

What was previously White Bait & Kale at Camden Medical Centre has been replaced with the newly opened Fat Cow. I figured that given the private specialist clinic’s wealthy patrons, the previous restaurant may have been deemed the way we saw MacDonalds – cheap, but not worth the stomach space.

The opening of Fat Cow could not have been more befitting. As the name suggests, the restaurant boats a premium selection of Wagyu beef. They have oddly branded themselves as a “bespoke Japanese-inspired meat atelier”, which may come across as a tad superfluous. That being said, Fat Cow’s selection of Japanese A3 and A5 grade beef, alongside with Australian Wagyu from either Stockyard or Blackmore Ranch with marbling no less than 8+, promises an unforgettable dining experience.
